Is T.V Good Or Bad Essays - Educational Psychology, Broadcasting

Is T.V Good Or Bad IS TELEVISION GOOD OR BAD? Television is not a bad thing, but in fact is a resource that can be used to educate and entertain people of all ages. There are many programs on television, which do not educate, because everyone needs to be entertained. I feel that television is a resource that is not used to the full extent that it could be. Television programs that educate are scarce and those that do educate are often on during the day when children are at school. Television stations should organise their programs so that the education shows are shown when children get home from school (3:30 - 4:30) so that the children will be able to learn while enjoying themselves at home. Schools often use television as a way of educating students because on television, they can demonstrate many things that cannot be done in the classroom, and often show things that cannot be experienced in the country or area where the school is located. I think that this is an excellent use of television and more use should be made of it in education, because it offers many advantages to classroom teaching. The drama serials on television are neither entertaining or educational. These shows simply depict real life (in the broadest sense of the term) and therefore do not teach or entertain (otherwise life itself would be entertaining!) I think that these programs should not be shown. Comedy programs, however, make viewers laugh, feel better, and make people generally happier. These programs should be encouraged, instead of the ?real life' dramas. Sports programs and broadcasts of sporting matches are very good. With them, fans of the sports can watch only parts of a match, or watch while they are at work. Without these services, people who are ill or disbled or people that had to work on weekends would miss out on sport all together. These programs show only relevant parts of the match and often include player information and information about the tournament or season. These programs are a great service to the public and encourage a healthy life-style. In general, television is an excellent resource, even though it is not always used to it's full potential, it entertains and (sometimes) educates. Television would be one of the most useful resources if some important changes were made. Bibliography N/A Current Events Essays

womens lib essays

womens lib essays Throughout the years, women have been seen as someone to have children, someone to cook, someone to clean, and someone who does not deserve rights. Because two women, Elizabeth Stanton and Susan B. Anthony, fought for equal rights, women today have an equality that was once thought impossible. They began by educating women on the rights they should have, then forming the National Womans Suffrage Association, and finally, together, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Susan B. Anthony would change the way that the United States viewed women, they would give them the right to vote. Elizabeth Cady Stanton started the fight for womens rights at a convention in Seneca Falls, New York 1848. She spoke out on the so-called equal rights that women had, saying It is the duty of the women of this country to secure to themselves their sacred right to the elective franchise. With that great statement Elizabeth Cady Stanton showed that women do have an opinion and they want to voice it. As her speech progressed she spoke about the inalienable rights that the constitution granted to all Americans; and how these rights were not given equally to women. Her radical new ideas sparked a controversial battle that would last well into the next century. Elizabeth Cady Stanton was one of the first women to wear bloomers and not a dress around her town and home, causing her husband (a judge) much ridicule and embarrassment. In 1851 at another convention in Seneca Falls, she met Susan B. Anthony, a woman as passionate about the fight for women to vote as she was; oddly enough, they met while Stanton was wearing bloomers. The women immediately became friends, and started full force to gain equal rights for women. Elizabeth Cady Stanton wrote most of the speeches delivered by Susan B. Anthony. Elizabeth Cady Stanton became the woman behind the scenes, and as the years progressed so did their fight. ...

Compare and contrast the 7S and Mintzberg's configuration models of Assignment

Compare and contrast the 7S and Mintzberg's configuration models of organisations - Assignment Example In this paper, emphasis is given on two, quite popular, theoretical frameworks: the McKinsey 7s Framework and the configuration model of Mintzberg. The elements and the role of the particular models are critically evaluated and analyzed referring to relevant literature. Between the two models, McKinsey’s 7s Framework is simpler and more flexible, a fact that makes it easier to be used when the time available for the evaluation of business performance is limited. On the other hand, when details need to be retrieved in regard to the potential transformations of an organization so that its effectiveness is increased, then the Mintzberg configuration model, that offers a clearer view on organizational processes, would be preferred. In regard to the above, current paper would be based on the following thesis statement: McKinsey’s 7s Framework and the Mintzberg configuration model are valuable models for measuring business performance. The former refers directly to the seven factors influencing business performance while the latter uses organizational structure as an indicator of business effectiveness. 2. McKinsey 7s Framework vs Mintzberg’s configuration model 2.1 Key characteristics of the above models In order to understand the differences and similarities of the two models, it is necessary to refer primarily to their characteristics and their role within modern organizations. In addition, the elements of each of the models need to be analyzed at the level that these elements can influence the models’ performance when used within a particular market. 2.1.1 McKinsey 7s Framework The McKinsey 7s Framework is commonly used for the evaluation of business performance. The Framework was first introduced in 1980s (Witcher and Chau 2010). It was only after two years, in 1982, that ‘Peters and Waterman included this model in their book ‘In search for Excellence’’ (Witcher and Chau 2010, p.248); it was through that book that McKinsey 7s Framework become popular worldwide. The McKinsey 7s Framework is based on the following view: the performance of each organization is influenced by seven factors/ variables (Witcher and Chau 2010). When having to evaluate organizational performance these variables need to be reviewed (Witcher and Chau 2010). The variables highlighted in the particular Framework are presented in Figure 1 below. A key characteristic of McKinsey’s 7s Framework is the following: the variables on which the framework is based tend to interact on a continuous basis (Witcher and Chau 2010). This means that the performance of each of these variables influences, necessarily, the performance of other variables (Witcher and Chau 2010). In addition, changes on one or more variables will also affect other variables (Witcher and Chau 2010). The relationship between these variables is made clear in Figure 1. On the other hand, the level at which each variable influences the other variables of the framework is not standardized, depending on the conditions in the organizational environment, the availability of time for analyzing organizational behaviour and so on. Emily's story Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words - 1

Emily's story - Essay Example I am Emily, Emily Rose. Not long ago, I was a cheerful, lively and agile young girl with many friends and a bunch of activities which could not fit in the 24 hours of the day. I was outgoing, blunt and always the centre of attention, when in a group. No wonder, I was approached by many people for friendships and relationships, but I always aimed higher than just being ‘another girl’ in the world. I wanted to be someone people admire and get inspiration from. I wanted to be like my father; an inspirational personality and a great journalist. Indeed, he was my hero and the role model. I always had a strong bond of love and affection with him. But I never thought I would be a reason for his broken pride and humiliation. It was mid February, when I went on a trip with my college mates. I always loved going on such trips and explore different parts of the world and the people around. But it was unusual; it was not uncomfortable or displeasing, but unusual. For the first time, I got attracted to a person, John, for his thoughts, views and manners inspired me. We got along really well and I felt special when he was around. Like any other girl, I developed feelings for him; he had no different feelings than me. The month passed giving us many memories, and a life changing news; the news that changed my life and his views; the news that replaced the old confident Emily with a girl who could not face the world; the news that broke the pride of his father and his trust on his daughter. Yes, I was pregnant. I still wonder if this was the same John who always picked my call on the first ring, I looked at the side table and picked my phone again. No, I was not calling John but my ever loving father this time. I needed him, like I always did since my childhood. As expected, no later than an hour, he was right in front of me listening to my story. This was
